Naturopathic Spinal Adjustments
WHAT ARE THEY?
They are high velocity, low amplitude (HVLA) forces put into your joints to improve mobility. Adjustments often make a "cracking" sound as compressed gas escapes from the joint into the surrounding fluid.
WHAT DO ADJUSTMENTS DO?
Adjustments improve mobility in certain segments, that for many reasons, have become less mobile. Things like stress, malalignment, compensation, past injuries affects our body and the way it moves. Our body is intelligent and it adapts by make some joints more mobile to compensate for the stuck ones. But in this case it is hard for the stuck joints to remobilize.
WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH STUCK JOINTS?
All of the nerves that branch off of our spinal cord exit between segments of vertebrae. These nerves innervate all of our organs and tissues. They are our sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. When a nerve root is compressed the organ or tissue it innervates is affected. It is harder for a body with subluxations (joints out of alignment) to enter into the "rest and digest" parasympathetic state. This makes it harder to sleep, relax, digest our food and feel rested. It can create many issues including pain, a low or moderate level of resting anxiety, indigestion and other problems. Having your back or joints adjusted is part of a complete medical treatment
HOW OFTEN TO DO I NEED TO GET ADJUSTED?
It is most common for people to get adjusted 1-2 times per week for a couple weeks, tapering down to 1x/week, 1x/2weeks and so on. It depends on your condition and underlying state of health. It is not good to get adjusted very frequently because it can induce hyper-mobility in joints which leads to other problems. We tailor your adjustment schedule to match your health needs.
